Citizenship is the legal relationship between an individual and a state. Ways to acquire Tanzanian citizenship: By birth, By descent (Tanzanian parent), By registration or Naturalisation. Rights of citizens: right to vote, education, free speech, fair trial, and freedom of religion. Duties of citizens: obey the law, pay taxes, respect others' rights, protect national resources, participate in national development. The National Constitution (1977, amended) is the supreme law.
